SPB ALBUM

Although KNS focuses more on Bharatanatyam, we have extensively used vocals by SPB.  He has more than 40 thousand songs in several languages.  994 in Tamil films. But is singled out as the only vocalist who has given more than 200 Christian songs. His sickness due to Covid19 and his demise came as a huge shock.  We have danced at his concerts.  He has joked and conversed with us.  We will dearly miss him.  When we started classes in zoom for the first 4 months we learnt nearly 8 dances, after which we began focusing on rare and unique songs that SPB rendered to the dance field.  Our list kept growing and here is a compilation of 30 songs in various categories spread over a span of three decades.  We thank you.  We revere you.  We miss you Sir, and we salute you.

ABOUT US

Established in 1984, Kalairani Natya Salai has been serving the community untiringly for decades. Hundreds professionally have been trained in this school, where Indian culture has always been greatly appreciated and enhanced. It enjoys a Non-Profit – 501(c )4 status , with a track record of innumerable free benefit performances. KNS is unique: (1) Traditional Graduate program equivalent to high school in arts universities in India (2) deep study of Natyashastra (3) We are classified as a non-profit tax-exempt organization.  The only school that promotes an arts ashram in India www.ranidevi.com. (4) Not restricted to only one style  – even our adavus are 108 including Kalakshetra, Thanjavur, and Vazhavoor banis so you can easily adapt to any workshops. (5) Biennial renditions are new, creative, thematic.  (6) A lot of scope to perform, work as a team, and choreograph. (7)  Items on Christian, patriotic themes including Thirukural and Buddhism    … and the list goes on.

The founder, Guru Rani has choreographed and staged 1000+ classical dances [may be a thousand – still working on the list] with innumerable performances each year. From flag-hoisting to parades, from temples to churches benefit shows, from weddings to tournaments, from conference to festivals – a wide variety of performances.
Traditional arangetrams are made special with non-repetitive new items. We are proud to say that we are the only dance school that stages a full margam to Christian themes. Guru Rani taught a credit course in Indian dance   at George Mason University (Fall 2007) KNS is a Member of the International Dance Council, Greece/France. KNS is also a Dance Center for Degree Courses affiliated with University in South India.  Guru Rani’s life-time dream is to give Bharatanatyam a University Curriculum recognition.  She served as a Commissioner to State of Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley for 4 years (2012-2016).
